Sakura and Syaoran live peacefully in the Country of Clow, the first as the kingdom's loved princess and sole heir to the throne, and the second as an intrepid and intelligent archaeologist. They are friends since childhood, or perhaps more than that? Despite his social differences, they feel something more than friendship for each other through the years, but they haven't got the chance to express their true feelings.

But under the princess' sweet looks and manners lies an unknown and enormous power which can change the world, even though she doesn't know about its existence... only his brother, King Touya and High Priest Yukito (as well as Sakura's father, the previous king of Clow, whom we suppose is deceased) know about this.

One day, after Syaoran has been exploring the misterious ruins of the country, Sakura starts acting strange and she's drawn in a trance state to that winged seal at the bottom of the ruins. Upon touching the seal, Sakura releases a pair of wings made of light, and then those wings disappear, all its feathers flying away... leaving the princess unconscious. Later, Yukito tells Syaoran those wings were the princess' memories, and that she will die without them. Yukito sends the couple to the only person who can help them: Yuuko, the Witch of Dimensions, which can grant any wish if you can pay its price.

There, Syaoran will meet two persons that will be very important in his journey: Kurogane, a strong and skilled ninja coming from a feudal-like Japan, and Fye D. Flowright, a magician coming from the Country of Celes and whose past is surrounded by mistery. Yuuko explains that Sakura's feathers have been dispersed between many different worlds (or dimensions), so Syaoran must travel between those worlds to find them. The price for dimension-travelling is too high for Syaoran to pay alone, but since Kurogane and Fye must also travel between different worlds (if you want to know why, check out the characters section), Yuuko agrees to grant their wish if the three of them give her their most precious items. Kurogane hands out Silver Dragon (his sword), Fye gives the tattoo on his back, which is the source of some of his magical powers, and Syaoran must give... his relationship with Sakura. That means that even if the princess finds all her memories, the ones related to Syaoran and what she felt for him will never came back. Syaoran does not doubt for a moment: it doesn't matter if she doesn't remember him, as long as she's alive.

Yuuko then gives them the one that will be the fifth member of the group: Mokona=Soel=Modoki (also known as the White Mokona, or Mokona for short). This little fluffy thing has, among many others (again, check characters ^^), the power to send them to different dimensions.

And so their journey begins...
